Odds Are, You Talk Too Much

Here's What to Do about It

This video was spurred by a recent LinkedIn post that I think many leaders and aspiring leaders can relate to: Listening more!

Here’s the original post:


You talk because you think you should be talking.

You talk because you think you need to tell people what to do.

You talk because you think you need to demonstrate your expertise.

You talk to fill awkward-feeling silence.

NONE of these are productive reasons to speak!

Become more aware of the time and space you occupy. Then, try to…

  1. Spend 20% of your interaction time ASKING and 80% LISTENING.

  2. Constantly ask yourself, “Why am I talking?” If there’s no good answer, STOP! Gather your thoughts, ask a question, and then listen!
